HIV-1

HAV (target/5′ NCR), HCV (5′UTR), HEV (ORF2), HIV-1 (target/POL), HIV-2 (target/POL), HTLVI (target/POL), HTLVII (target/POL), and WNV (5′UTR) positive specimens were quantified using the Primer Design Genesig kit (Primerdesign Ltd, United Kingdom) according to the manufacturer’s protocol (OneStep RT-qPCR protocol).

he Genesig Advanced Real-Time PCR HIV-2 Detection kit (Primer Design LTD, Southampton, UK) assay was performed as previously described (31), except for the use of the NIH-Z viral stock instead of the HIV-2 DNA calibrator included in the kit.

The in-house HIV-2 nested PCR assay was evaluated using the four known HIV-2 antibody positive specimens. These specimens were also processed at a private laboratory using a commercial real-time HIV-2 PCR assay (Genesig Standard kit) that targets the integrase (pol) gene region.
